Creating More Personal Time

By: Stephanie Bell

In today’s busy world, finding time for yourself can feel more like a luxury than something you actually need. Between work, family, and a never-ending list of things to do, it’s easy to push your own needs aside. But here’s the thing: you’re not a machine! Taking time to care for yourself isn’t just nice—it’s necessary. If you’re feeling like there’s no time for you, here are some simple ways to start carving out some personal time:

Schedule "Me Time" Like an Appointment

Just like a meeting or a workout, block out time in your calendar specifically for yourself. Treat it like a non-negotiable appointment—whether it's 20 minutes of reading, taking a walk, or just being still. When it's on your calendar, it's easier to prioritize.

Wake Up Earlier or Redefine Your Evenings

If your days are packed, consider waking up 30 minutes earlier to enjoy some quiet time before the day begins. Alternatively, use your evenings intentionally by unplugging from screens and engaging in activities that bring you joy and relaxation.

Set Boundaries

You’ve got to protect your time. If you don’t, no one else will. It’s okay to say no to things that aren’t serving you right now. Whether it’s a work project or a social event, be clear about your limits and don’t feel bad about taking time for yourself.

 Embrace the Power of "Micro-Breaks"

Sometimes, taking a full hour for yourself isn't feasible, but you can still create personal time throughout the day. Try to incorporate "micro-breaks"—short, intentional pauses where you step away from work or other obligations. These could be as simple as taking a 5-minute walk, closing your eyes for a few moments of mindfulness, or just breathing deeply. These little breaks add up and help refresh your mind, so you don't burn out by the end of the day.

The Bottom Line: You Deserve This Time

Life will always be busy, and demands will never completely go away. But when you start prioritizing yourself—even in small ways—you’ll find more energy, patience, and joy in your daily life. Making time for yourself isn’t a luxury; it’s an investment in your well-being. So go ahead, schedule that "me time," set those boundaries, and embrace the little moments that bring you peace. You deserve it.
